Apple OTA is using my mobile data

Hi

So for around a year now I’ve noticed that my mobile data gets used up very quickly and very often, using about 500MBs to 1GB in minutes on basically nothing.

I’ve installed a mobile data monitoring apps after my mobile data setting: Settings > Mobile Data > System Services on my phone told it it was being used on “general” (which you cannot even control or switch off), and on the monitoring app most times it has said Apple OTA is using about 70-80% of my data.

I’ve been on countless forums with people that have the same issue and all have some version of saying that’s there’s no solution

Now from what I’ve seen and searched, OTAs are only supposed to happen over WiFi, so this doesn’t make sense.

I’ve also switched off any downloads and switched off my data for everything besides WhatsApp, and most notifications off so that “push notifications” not not use even more of my data.

This is becoming very costly for me and I’m really hoping that this issue can be solved.

iPhone 11, iOS 18
