Why is there a red line at the edge of my ipad mini?

I literally bought this a few days ago and I just opened and set it up today. But when I turned on the device I saw this red line already appearing at the bottom of my ipad. At first I thought it was just temporary but later on after setting it all up, I restarted the device again and noticed that its still there?? How do I go about this?

Try a forced-restart of your iPad - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

If the issue persists, a reliable method to confirm a screen or other hardware fault is to take a screenshot when the fault is evident - and then review the captured screenshot image...

When reviewed, if the line is not present in the screenshot image, then you have demonstrated that you have a hardware fault that may require repair or replacement of the iPad. If the line is visible in the screenshot, the something other than hardware will be the cause.

Note: When reviewing the image, rotating the iPad screen orientation by 90°, from Portrait to Landscape, will ensure that the image does not coincide with screen defects if present.

If the test indicates that a hardware fault, a visit to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store is recommended - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad. This will likely inform your next steps:

Is is visible on ALL screens of the iPad? Even within apps that do not show the wallpaper you are using?

Does the line change with screen rotation or does it stay on that particular side?

If it's only visible on screens that are showing your wallpaper and rotates along with your wallpaper, the issue could possibly be with your wallpaper having the red line on it.

If the line stays on that side no matter what is displayed on the screen, I agree that it's likely a hardware issue that only Apple can resolve.
