I assume this just changed in Sequoia 15.5, maybe the prior release. Who thought it was a good idea to change the back/forward buttons from a button in the Finder window to the words "Back/Forward"? And how do I get it back to just showing left/right buttons?
With the Customize Toolbar.. engaged > click on Show at the bottom > select Icons Only > click Done.
Thanks - that did it. Yet - who decided that it would be a brilliant idea to change that from settings I've had and never changed since Tiger (10.4)?
Rule #1 of development - NEVER change GUI settings the user had in place with an update/upgrade. I go between 4 different OS'es - and I can't keep up with all the buried options I had set in place nearly 20 years ago and never changed.

I never had that change happen on any update or upgrade...full stop.
Bits get flipped, yes it happens— nothing new there.

Hard to say what change it...?
Personally I've never had it randomly change after upgrading or moving to a new Mac.
In all the years of upgrades (19 now) I’ve never had this either. Until now.
