How can I check if a used Magic Mouse still has good batteries and will work with my Mac mini?

Original mouse batteries leaked ruined guts of mouse. It worked my 2014 Mac Mini.

can’t use current NEW mouse that’s rechargeable because APPLE did not include scrolling ability when synced with my 2014 Mac Mini.

how can I tell I’m buying a refurbished Magic Mouse that’s rechargeable it will work scrolling option on my old Mac Mini?

I see many Magic Mouse on eBay looking like it might work but how can I tell?

FWIW, the 1st generation Apple Magic Mouse, came out in 2009 and uses 2 AA batteries. It is model A1296. The 2nd generation Magic Mouse, came out in 2015 and uses rechargeable batteries. It is still compatible with your 2014 Mac. Its model is: A1657.

As you know the currently newest mouse has a USB-C port, but it requires macOS Sequoia 15.1 or newer to be fully functional ... which your Mac cannot run.

So, if you are looking to get a replacement Magic Mouse, you will to get either the A1296 or A1657 models. Alternately, you can use third-party mice, like those from Logitech.
