iPhone "Messaging Services" using 2GB+ cellular data per day with no messages sent

Over the last week, my iPhone 13 Pro Max (iOS 18.5) has been using 2GB+ of cellular data a day for Messaging Services. I have received very few messages, and none close to 2GB. Today, it happened again and I confirmed no iMessages sent or received for the last 48 hours.

The data usage shows up in iPhone Cellular Data usage as well as my carrier's data usage view.

Does anyone know what might be going on?

Are you sure that you're looking at "per day" usage - and not at total usage since the last time you manually reset the counters (if you ever reset them at all)?

Yes, I have been keeping track and resetting the data usage counter in iPhone when I see it use a large amount in a single day. Messaging services used 2.4GB on Monday, nothing on Tuesday, and 2.68GB today (Wed) for example.
