How do I fix contact photos disappearing on macOS but showing on iOS?

How do I fix contact photos disappearing on macOS but showing on iOS?

This has been ongoing for a while, can't seem to fix it. On MacOS my contact photos (and messages icons) for select people disappear. Not everyone. If I look on IOS, their photos are fine, but not on MacOS. If I set new photos on MacOS, they appear for a minute and disappear. When I check on iCloud, using the contacts app, the contact photo from IOS is present, but not on MacOS.

Some notes:

The photos that are missing are pinned to the top of Messages on MacOS.
All the missing photos had posters setup, but not everything with posters setup are missing
When I deleted all the posters and left just contact photo for those contacts with missing photo, it did not update
Some contacts (that have photos on MacOS), have different photos on MacOS then both the contact photo and smaller photo on IOS.
I have disconnected IOS and MacOS from iCloud (kept contacts on IOS), waited a few mins then reconnected, did not change anything.

I am kind of at wits end... any suggestions... it is very frustrating...

for sync issue like yours sign out of your AppleID/Account on the mac and back in again and compare your results.

if were me— I would have chosen to keep the contacts on signing out...and not given up what was already in place;

then letting it fill in the missing data/photos on the resync...

I guess you can try again with a revised strategy, and see what happens

Thank you for your help. I logged out of Apple Account on my Mac, told it to NOT keep my contacts data when I logged out. I then rebooted my mac and photos still not syncing and in fact, some of the photos I had on my Mac side are gone and those contacts have no photos.

I did try keeping them the first time, to no avail. What is interesting is that some (very few) photos) are syncing but not all of them. I have about 200 contacts with about 75% having photos. I dropped my contacts into Numbers (which displays all the fields in a table, and I could not see any consistent difference in the fields for the contacts that did sync photos and those that did not.... Could it be size or format of picture? When I look at Contacts on Icloud, it is consistent with the phone, but the Mac is just syncing the text fields and SOME of the photos.

Any help is appreciated.
