How can I turn off speed camera notifications in my iPhone 16 Pro?

I am going to France in a few weeks from the UK and I have been told it is illegal to have speed cam notifications turned on while in France. Can anyone tell me how I can turn this off? I have searched Google for tips on this and it did tell me to go too.

Setting> apps> maps > Directions then click Driving the turn off speed limit

(turning off speed limit only took away the speed limit on the road)

I did do this then took the car out for a drive and went past a speed camera and it still notified me about the speed camera so it did not work. I did turn my phone off then back on then went past the speed camera again and it still notified me about the speed camera.

I have read a few posts in the community and none of them explain or tell you how to turn this off.

Any help would be grateful

Thank you

To my knowledge, what you’ve heard about the speed camera notifications being illegal, in some countries, including, but not being limited to France, Germany, Austria and Italy, it is related to specific applications solely designed to warn drivers about speed cameras. If this were not the case, BMW could not supply a speed camera warning built into the car either. So, with your average navigation app, you should be fine. If you want to be 100% sure, turn it off; if you’ve turned it off, but it still displays, what are you supposed to do? The AA (UK corp) suggests in their article to turn off the cellphone. If you consider it necessary, follow that advice.

So - I read that Google Maps turns off this feature automatically in France - maybe this is the case as well - I do doubt it (slightly). As I’ve driven last time through a country with similar regulations - not as strict - it was “working” normally. So, I have a difficult time giving a solution here, because if there is no possibility to turn it off, I don’t know? My personal take is:

  1. don’t advertise yourself to the police
  2. “do you want me to drive in a foreign country, without a navigation app?”

And if it really was so strict, nobody could use Apple Maps in France because it’s illegal - how?

general advice: also just don’t drive too fast because it could get expensive - there are radar guns as well.

Also: look what I’ve found in this other thread:

Speed checks aren’t for notifying you police are around, it’s designed to have Apple check (according to an article online) the speed of the area to maintain accuracy of speed limits in that area. But we all use it to warn other drivers of speed traps and we should all continue to do so.
