i currently have the iphone 14, and im looking to trade it in for the 16 pro max. my 14 still has 3 months to pay off, but am i still able to trade it in?

Was also curious so just spoke with Apple Support and they confirmed you can trade in, but will still be liable for any balance. They only check the serial number which doesn’t tell them whether it’s paid off or not.

You need to pay off the phone first, Apple will not take a phone that you still owe money on.

Interesting and a tad bit disappointing.
No, it can't be traded until you pay the debt you agreed to.
While you can trade it in, you will still be responsible for any unpaid balance on the iPhone, so it wouldn’t make sense to do so.

We could be wrong, but Apple will typically check a phone's eligibility to be traded in and what we're saying is Apple likely won't take a phone in trade which hasn't been fully paid off.
Get the phone paid off first. Then....trade it in.
