Magic keyboard with numerical pad not working

I posted this question but posted in the wrong forum so I'm trying again.

All of a sudden this morning the keyboard started entering weird characters. When I hit a d, I get a dk. If I hit back erase, it erases one character and adds a /.

This is what I've done:

1. Tried my old wireless keyboard which works perfectly.
2. Restarted several times.
3. Turned off BT multiple times and re-added it after unpairing.
4. made sure the settings were correct in terms of location and accessibility

None of these worked.

My assumption is that the keyboard is toast (I've had to replace them in the past)and that it's a hardware problem.

Is it worth trying to get this fixed or has it reached the end of its days?
