Unexpected double charge after clicking for astrology advice on iPhone

I love a good horoscope. I really do. And I don’t usually complain online but this felt weird. So I saw an ad for a "starseed reading", clicked on it while sipping my latte, took the quiz (which was actually kinda fun), and paid the small fee. It wasn’t in the App Store, but I thought it was still part of the Nebula app I use sometimes. Then nothing showed up. No reading, no message. Just that awkward "thank you" screen. I decided to write to support, clicked the email they listed… and somehow my card got charged again. Like... again?! For asking a question? Now, I’m not saying it was on purpose but I also didn’t press "Buy" the second time. All I did was try to find out where my cosmic insights went. Apple, is that allowed? Because that felt more Mercury-in-retrograde than usual 😅

Not sure how Apple is involved at all. I agree you were scammed on a website by inadvertently signing up for a subscription (or future charge) after they got your card details by charging you the small fee. With any fraudulent charge the solution is the same, first you contact the merchant and if unresolved, then you dispute the charge with the credit card being charged.

Using an iPhone to do that does not make Apple responsible for your activities on a website or any purchase you make. If using Apple Pay, you have given the merchant the unique token your bank supplied to you when that card was added to your device. This prevents the merchant from having the actual account number of your card, which is a huge benefit in case of a data breach that could expose your account on the dark web, but the actual transaction is between your credit card and the merchant.

Usually you see these types of scams on Social Media where the poster is paid to refer you to their website, but they also use website advertisement too. For any purchase outside the App Store or one not managed by Apple, they have provided this Support Article explaining the risks.
