iPhone Gets Stuck in Data Recovery Mode After Factory Reset When Using My iCloud Account
Hi everyone,
I’ve been facing a recurring and unusual issue with my iCloud account, and I hope someone here can help me figure it out.
Whenever I sign into any iPhone using my iCloud account, everything works fine initially. But the problem begins when I try to factory reset that iPhone. The device gets stuck in “Data Recovery” mode during the reset process. It never completes the reset, and I’m unable to proceed.
I’ve tried this on multiple iPhone models (old and new), and the same thing happens every time — only when my iCloud account is signed in. If any other iCloud account is used, the factory reset works fine.
I’ve taken the phone to a technician who force resets the phone using iTunes (possibly by entering DFU mode). He mentioned that the reset process hangs on the "partitioning" step, which could indicate an issue with the iCloud backup or some corrupted data linked to my Apple ID.
Here’s what I’ve tried:
- Signed into iCloud on different iPhones (same issue every time)
- Attempted reset both from Settings and via iTunes/Finder
- Searched online and checked forums — no clear solution found
- My iCloud account seems to work fine otherwise (contacts, photos, etc. sync correctly)
My suspicion:
The issue seems to be related to my iCloud backup or some kind of data corruption linked to my Apple ID, which causes the phone to crash or freeze during the system reset.
Has anyone faced a similar issue or know how to fix it?
I’d be really grateful if someone from Apple or the community could look into this. Is there a way to clean up my iCloud account or remove potentially corrupted backup data?
Thanks in advance.
