Will Spigen Glas.tR Slim Screen Protector Cause Long-Term Damage to MacBook Air M4 Screen?

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently purchased the MacBook Air M4 13-inch (2025 model) and I’m considering applying the Spigen Glas.tR Slim Full Coverage Screen Protector (compatible with M2/M3/M4 models). It uses adhesive only around the edges, and many users report no problems with lid closure or screen damage.

However, I've also come across Apple's general caution against placing anything between the screen and keyboard when the lid is closed.

I’d really appreciate your input on the following:

  1. Has anyone here used this Spigen Glas.tR Slim protector on the M4 or earlier MacBook Air models?
  2. Did you experience any issues with screen pressure, cracks, or lid misalignment over time?
  3. Is the protector too thick to safely close the lid without risking screen stress?
  4. Would AppleCare cover any screen damage if it resulted from using such a third-party screen protector?

Any experiences, recommendations, or alternative screen protector suggestions would be super helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Putting anything on the screen of your Mac can cause problems. There is almost no space between the keys and the screen when the MBA is closed. Adding a "screen protector" can put pressure on the screen, potentially causing it to crack. It can also damage the screens coating.

Any damage caused by a screen protector would most likely not be covered by Apple.

Why do you think you need a screen protector? There's generally no reason to touch the screen. Wash you hands before using your MBA. Don't use a lot of lotion. Don't eat while using it. This will help prevent the keys from getting dirty.

Ditto +1 ???

It’s nothing like an iPad with near-constant “touching.”

If you find fingerprints transferring from the keyboard to be excessive or bothersome …

… placing a VERY THIN sheet of tissue paper on the keyboard when closing solves the problem and — as a bonus — never requires any cleaning. (just use a new sheet)
