I Can Not Open New Microsoft Word Documents As New Windows

I tried “Prefer Tabs When Opening Documents - Always” It does not work.

I type CMD + N while creating new documents.

There is no option as open document as new window on MS Word’s Menu Bar either.

How can I open more than single document at once?

I use MSOffice 2024 on M1 Silicon running Sequoia.

When I launch Word it gives me a blank document (I have deselected “Show document gallery when opening Word”)

If I select “File/New Document” it creates a second blank word document in a separate window etc.

Also selecting” File/Open” I can then choose an existing file as a separate window.

Is this what you are trying to achieve or have I misunderstood it?

What version of MS Office are you using?

Where are you selecting “Prefer Tabs When Opening Documents – Always”?

Has your setup etc changed that might be stopping you doing what you wish to do?

Microsoft Word is not an Apple application and its help can be found here in Microsoft specific communities for Mac users.

Although Apple implemented Merge Windows in some of its applications that create open document tabs in the application, Microsoft has no n-tuple opened documents into tabs feature. So whether you create n-tuple new documents, or open several existing, there is no open window to tabs capability in Word.

What they have is on the Window menu, but is under Move and Resize sub-menu where you can force two open documents into halves of your screen, or other variations. If you do this, you will need to individually choose Return to Previous Size to reduce their size afterward.
