Does Wi-Fi turn off when locked

If I leave wi-fi connected, then lock my phone, does the iphone 4 automatically turn off for you to save the battery? I think it does I just needed a confirmation . thanks

This is correct and how it is suppose to work. Ever since the very first iPhone three years ago, the iPhone has always disconnected from WiFi and switched to 3G when sleeping. This is why when first turned on, you can see it quickly switch from 3G to WiFi.

I have an original iPhone that still does this on 3.1.3. Again, every iPhone has done this since the first three years ago.

I don't believe that the phone ever drops the connection. I think the Wi-Fi connection goes dormant.

If you've ever noticed, when you disconnect from a hotspot, or when you first connect, initially, it takes a few seconds, because it has to obtain an IP address and all the technical stuff behind the scenes.

If it were really disconnected from Wi-Fi, it'd take longer from just turning on the phone for it to reconnect.
