Does Wi-Fi turn off when locked

It's not SUPPOSED to, but apparently, on iOS 4, there is a glitch that turns it off after about 10 minutes.

I don't think it does - if you press the home button when locked the Wifi icon will still show.

TechFrenzy, I have noticed on particular Wi-Fi signals, I do lose the Wi-Fi connection. Example, hospital provided Wi-Fi, that require you to agree to their terms of use. I have to re-establish Wi-Fi everytime I wake iPhone for use.

By design, when the iphone goes into sleep mode, WiFi is turned off to conserve battery. The phone will then use the cellular data network for all data needs. Upon awaking, the phone will reconnect to WiFi, if available.

This is correct and how it is suppose to work. Ever since the very first iPhone three years ago, the iPhone has always disconnected from WiFi and switched to 3G when sleeping. This is why when first turned on, you can see it quickly switch from 3G to WiFi.

I have an original iPhone that still does this on 3.1.3. Again, every iPhone has done this since the first three years ago.

Your link states that the this is a feature of the iPod touch which is required so that push notification services can continue working when the iPod is sleeping.

Nowhere in that article does it refer to the iPhone ad this is not a feature of the iPhone. It just states that it would be nice to have it as a feature on all i-devices.

Other users have stated that on their iPhones, it stays persistant.

I can attest that on my iPhone 4 WiFi does not stay on when the phone goes into sleep mode. When I wake up the phone I see the 3G icon and 5 seconds or so later it reconnects to my wireless network.

Yes, many iPhone 4 users on Macrumors thought that this was supposed to be a feature on iOS 4 but were confusing that feature as one included on the Touch. It was dismissed as only a rumor and not a proven feature.

There is a mod for jailbroken phones that enables WiFi to stay connected when the phone sleeps.

I don't believe that the phone ever drops the connection. I think the Wi-Fi connection goes dormant.

If you've ever noticed, when you disconnect from a hotspot, or when you first connect, initially, it takes a few seconds, because it has to obtain an IP address and all the technical stuff behind the scenes.

If it were really disconnected from Wi-Fi, it'd take longer from just turning on the phone for it to reconnect.
