10.4.11 Server giving static IP-Adresses to clients not work

Hi
i set up DNS for my 10.4.11 Server and DHCP for give some dynamic and some static adresses to his clients.

My problem: clients i put to the tab static IP in SA get always dynamic IP-Adresses too, they appear always in the tab "clients" i found down in the DHCP-Service window from SA and the client get always not the desired IP i give them in the static tab. The static and the dynamic Adressrange did not overlap...

Static addresses are IP addresses you physically put in at the machine in question. Putting them into a dhcp server's static section tells the dhcp server to skip over those addresses when it is handing out addresses. If your static address mappings are part of your dhcp pool you would put them in under the static tab. Since, you admit, that they are not, you have no need to put them in to the static section of the dhcp server.

If you don't want to physically put the addresses into a client, then leave all of your clients as dhcp, but, be sure to use static addresses for all printers and servers.

Are these machines using ethernet or airport/wifi and what interface macaddress have you put in the static list?

You should be able to setup static IP:s outside of the dynamic IP DHCP range to static IP DHCP clients but you could also try using "reserved" IP:s within the dynamic range to static IP DHCP clients.

(And this is really the Snow Leopard server discussion.)

The clients (and the server) are all connected over a switch with ethernet...

The switch can connect with an Airport Express to an Airport Extreme Base that have internet and so on (there ars some more clients and the rest of the network, printers and so on, connected to the Airport Extreme)

For learning purposes, i always disconnect my switched testing network from the Airport express station by powering off the Airport Extreme so that the Network is shure isolated and standalone from the other ones...

i put the Mac-adresses of the clients that i get thrugh Apple Remote Desktop to the static list of the server in the dhcp-section from the server. Clients have no Airportcard inside, only ethernet, i do working on the clients with the ARD if i try to login on a client. ARD is running on the server.

I give a IP-Range from 10.0.1.30 to 10.0.1.40 to the DHCP on my Server where him can choose dynamic IPs for his clients and i put the Mac-adresses from the clients (that ard tell me) in the static section of dhcp.

After starting the clients, the list showing the dynamic given IPs is empty (that means, that i have no leases running to come clients), then i start the clients, they appear with other IPs i give to them in the static-tab in SA in the dynamic Client list... The Clients try to get IPs with the DHCP switched on (not DHCP with manaual adress) in the Networksection of the clients.

I think that dns and dhcp working well but i not shure for this. For testing, i changed the dynamic adress-range for DHCP to other than 10.0.1.30 - 40 and the clients get IPs from the new range, so i think dhcp working will.

My problem is, that they get always dynamic IPs...

If i check the protocol i get from SA it shows:

G4SP800 is a client, i am a little bit confused about the line:
Aug 30 12:15:32 server00001 bootpd[272]: DHCP REQUEST [en0]: 0,47:34:53:50:38:30:30 <G4SP800>

because
.. 0,47:34:53:50:38:30:30 is not the Mac-Adress of the G4SP800 i get through ARD...

I think,i have to put inside the static tab of the DHCP server, named "Hardware-Adresse", "IP-Adress" and something with name "Beschreibung"(Description) the Mac-adress of the interface the client is connected with the server, the Ip i want give static to the client and a free descriptor for the machine that have to be unique.

The danymic Adressrange and the static Adressrange not overlap in my testconfiguartion...

If i try to give static IPs from DHCP-Server to clients, i choose dhcp in the clients or i have to choose "dhcp with manual adress" in the clients network tab? As i understand, if i handle the static IPs with the DHCP-Server, i have to choose dhcp on the clients not "dhcp with manual adress". right?
