You're right this is absolutely horrible. I live in Spain and I don't know anyone around me who uses the Spanish menus, everyone is using Spanish as second language so the iPhone interface stays in English.

And to MrHoffman response, there is an "per-app language setting", the Phone app has a "preferred language" setting under Settings > Apps > Phone, I would assume that this setting should be enough to set the call screening / voicemail language but no, this feature is for some reason locked to the primary language of the iPhone menus and ignores that per-app setting.

Thanks. MrHoffman suggested to recommend apple a feature that already exists, per-app language setting is available for the Phone app, it just doesn't work as expected, the voicemail/call screening ignores this setting.

I already sent it thru the Feedback Assistant app and I found on Reddit that others did it more than a month ago. Hopefully Apple will find it important enough because as far as I can tell, people don't even aware of this feature because it doesn't show up in their menus (just spoke with a colleague, he told me this feature sounds amazing but he's not willing to change the UI language for it).

Throwing off-topics answers for points is not being helpful, but rude. We are not your point machines.

The only way someone gets points is if other community members choose to award them. Simply posting doesn't get points. TheLittles responses may not have pleased you, but they aren't off topic. The only people who get to decide if a post is appropriate or not are the Hosts.

If you don't like an answer, either say "thank you" and move on, or if you can't do that, just ignore it.

There are many multi-lingual countries which needs this feature: Singapore, Malay, Hong Kong, and most of the EU. We need English and at least one more language in our daily lives.

As suggested earlier, tell Apple:

Using Two Different Languages on iPhone:

Best you can do, as of this reply, is add a new keyboard. This allows you to type in both languages without needing to switch keyboards. So, if that meets your goal, I'd say your all set.

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: General
  3. Tap: Keyboard
  4. Tap: Keyboards
  5. Tap: "Add New Keyboard"
  6. Select: [the language[s] you want manually]
