AirPods Pro 2 charging case flashes amber and beeps 3 times when trying to reset

I have bought genuine Apple Airpods Pro 2 and for a month they worked like a charm. Then, all of a sudden, just when I opened the charging case to get them for a call, my iPhone showed me "Not your AirPods". After the call, I looked online for help and finally reset my AirPods according to the official Apple guide.

After firmly holding the button on the charging case for 15 seconds, it does NOT flash amber-white as the guide says, but instead it flashes amber 3 times accompanied by a beep every time. I CAN re-pair them afterwards, but obviously the resetting does not go as planned, otherwise it would not flash amber 3 times and beep with it.

Of course I already contacted Apple Support, they are absolutely clueless and wasted 1,5 hours of my time, and they told me to bring it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider and they will look at it. Really frustrating on a brand new device, and what is more frustrating is that Apple should be aware of the problem (since this isn't the only thread here and on the Internet).

I just wanted to show that this still IS a problem and that neither Apple Support nor their online guides are of any help ("if it doesn't flash amber and then white, start over" - yeah thanks. Sounds like an infinite loop to me).

Also, the AASP had this weird clause that "if it's a hardware issue they will exchange it for free, otherwise I have to pay". I have eliminated all other options, the firmware is up to date and there is no way for an end user to re-flash the firmware of the case or the Airpods. So even if it WAS a software issue, it was obviously not my fault, or am I wrong?

I just heard back from the service provider: they tested the AirPods and "everything seems fine as they connect to a phone flawlessly".

Whenever I said "but it seems to produce an error when trying to reset it" they just said "our diagnosis showed no error". I mean of course, if the apple provided diagnosis does not check for this error, it would not show up. I find it mildly irritating that they find nothing wrong with "hey - this pair of airpods pro resets as described by apple, whereas this pair blinks 3 times and beeps with it, but whatever, if it works and our diagnosis shows no error, what should we do about it."

After that diagnosis I talked to Apple about it again, and they said "this behavior is definitely not expected, all we can offer is for you to send them in, and in case we find anything wrong with them, we will repair / replace them."

I am still thinking whether I should really do it, because if the analysis is as "standard" as with the service provider, they won't find anything either. I also considered booking an appointment with the Genius bar at the nearest Apple Store, but that would be an 1,5 hr drive.

So, my problem has not been resolved, and who knows if the "not your Airpods" problem will return in a couple of weeks, and then I have to use the faulty reset mechanism again.
