When your iPhone is placed face down, it dims the display and prevents it from lighting up for notifications. But unfortunately, there is no built-in setting that makes the iPhone automatically lock the screen when placed face down.

What Face Down Detection Does Not Do:

  • It does not automatically trigger a screen lock (like pressing the Side button).
  • It does not override your Auto-Lock time setting (Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock).
  • There is no Shortcuts automation trigger for “face down” or orientation detection on iOS.
