iMac M4 doesn't always boot up.

Hello All.

I have owned my iMac for just over a month now and more regular than not, when I press the on button, back bottom left, nothing happens.

I repeat the process but still it doesn't come on.

The cable from the plug socket is fine and all connected properly.

Sometimes, I flick the mains switch off and then back on and still nothing happens, and sometimes it does boot up.

Sometimes I switch everything on for the very first time and press the on button, and it boots up with no issues!!

Any suggestions please?

Have a look at > If your Mac doesn't turn on - Apple Support

If that doesn't help, then it sounds like you need to call an electrician to check your home/office wiring.

If the iMac is off, it should only take a momentary push of the button to turn on.

If it is on and none responsive, it would require a 10 second hold to shutdown and then a momentary push to turn on.

The issue may not be the electrical socket itself

But rather " Sometimes, I flick the mains switch "

I know that when travel to S. East Asia

The socket itself is fine but the Switch that Turns ON the electrical from the socket was defective

Thanks for replying.

Definitely not the socket/wiring as the socket has been in use with no issues for a number of years, plus I installed it so I know it isn't dodgy.

How long should you press the on button for on the iMac?

I know exactly what you mean but it isn't that.

I was just wondering if I am over pressing the on button.

I really don't know.

I have a few more months under guarantee to keep an eye on it.

Yeah. Either it’s the iMac or your electrical system is messed up.
