I want to change the battery in my iPhone 11 Pro Max. The Apple website gives an estimate of around $89 for this service, even when selecting my local (Costa Rica) service providers. However, when I called them, they quoted me for $169.
Are these centers allowed to charge what they want or do they have to abide by the estimates in the Apple website? I find this price extremely high, almost as much as the phone’s worth now.

Yes they are. I can't tell you whether all the changes and confusion with tariffs might be involved here, since the shop has to buy batteries from Apple in the U.S.
