MacBook Air M4 and ASUS ProArt Display PA279CV

Hello,

I’m experiencing an issue when connecting my monitor to my MacBook using a USB-C to USB-C cable (the one included with the monitor).

When I connect the cable, the MacBook starts charging, but no image appears on the monitor. However, if I briefly connect the MagSafe charger and then immediately disconnect it, the image appears.

When I use a DisplayPort to USB-C cable instead, the image displays without any issues.

Previously, I used this same monitor with a MacBook Air (M1), and never encountered this problem with the USB-C to USB-C connection.

Could you please help me understand what might be causing this?

Recent versions of macOS do not like to see display transmission errors – as in, they may cut resolution or signal if they see any. Monitor vendors sometimes ship "lowest bidder" type cables in the box. Perhaps the USB-C cable included with the monitor is experiencing errors enough that the Mac is cutting the signal.

You might try using a different USB-C to USB-C cable and seeing if that helps. Make sure that it is rated for

  • Carrying 4K video
  • Carrying 96W or more of USB-C Power Delivery power (that monitor can provide up to 96W)

and try to keep the length to three feet / one meter or less.

It seems like there might be a compatibility issue between the USB-C connection on your MacBook Air M4 and the ASUS ProArt Display PA279CV. Using the DisplayPort to USB-C cable is a viable workaround for now.

You're essentially repeating what the original poster said. They know there is a problem and they know Display Port to USB-C cable works. I'm not sure what the value is here.
