when changing the text alert, I want the classic alarm sound. It is available as a phone alert, but not a text. How can I do that?

It appears it’s no longer an option and was removed in a previous update. You can see if the iTunes Store has the ringtone for purchase or you can create a custom ringtone for use. You can also let Apple know of your feedback below that you would like the sound to return for Messages.

If it is not available in Settings/Sounds & Haptics/Text Tone you can’t use it. But scroll to the bottom in Text Tone and tap on Classic and see if what you think what a “classic alarm” should sound like is there. There are a couple that Apple considers to be “classic”.
