Requesting Apple Pay refunds

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice or support regarding unwanted Apple Pay transactions that occurred while I was unwell. I’m currently under NHS mental health care in the UK and was recently without my antipsychotic treatment (Xeplion injection) for over 9 weeks. During this time, I accidentally made payments and subscriptions I didn’t understand or intend — possibly linked to sites like “juliettdate.com.”

I would like to ask:

  • Is there a way to request refunds or cancel Apple Pay transactions made during a vulnerable period?

  • Can I block future payments to certain companies or set spending restrictions?

  • Is there an accessibility or safeguarding feature for people with mental health conditions?

I rely on benefits and am currently homeless, so these accidental charges have hit me hard financially. Any help or direction would be deeply appreciated.

Thank you,

Jonathan

That is done the same way as any other credit card purchase by first contacting the merchant, and if unresolved you would dispute the charge with the bank that issued the card being billed. Apple Pay is not a bank account that holds any money, it is just a secure way to process a payment with a merchant so they do not have your actual credit card account number. Apple does not approve/deny any charges, that is done by the credit card you are using. No money flows through Apple, the transaction is between the merchant and your credit card. The only thing Apple does is send the merchant a unique token that your bank sent to you when you requested your card to be added to your Wallet.

So to answer your specific questions:

  • Is there a way to request refunds or cancel Apple Pay transactions made during a vulnerable period? The same way you request refunds or dispute any other purchase made with a credit card. None of that involves Apple and any refund is sent to your bank directly and does not go to Apple.
  • Can I block future payments to certain companies or set spending restrictions? All that is done by your credit card company. Apple does not approve/deny/block any purchase, that is your credit card that does that.
  • Is there an accessibility or safeguarding feature for people with mental health conditions? You can certainly remove your card from your Wallet. You also have the option to use Screen Time settings on your device to remove the Wallet app, so no purchases can be made. Any approval of a purchase is not made by Apple.
