AirPods Pro stuck in transparency mode after software update

I know people had a similar issue where the off option wasn’t available; mine shows the option but won’t let me use it. I didn’t find any setting I had on that looked like it would interfere with the specific mode so I’m confused as to why it doesn’t work anymore. I didn’t change any of my settings before running into the issue so maybe it resulted from a software update? I’m not sure, and I didn’t see any solutions online.

Original Title: Why can’t my AirPod pros go into “off” mode? Noise cancelling, transparency, and adaptive all work fine but my AirPods now default to transparency and also go back to transparency when I try to select off.
