On the plus side, if I were going over 2GB once a month for 8 months, the system will have paid for itself when compared to AT&T.

Now if in 8 months time something better comes along, I may go for it.

Virgin Modile had an ad in the Washington Post Express this morning (given out free on the Metro)and thought of this thread while reading the ad...in the fine print (very very fine print) it says:

    "Unlimited does not mean unreasonable"

    What ever that caveat means

Guess it is up to Virgin Mobile to determine if your usage is unreasonable.

I would just love to know the secret of how you manage to get to an unreasonable usage level with it!

Or what the definition of unreasonable is...in whose eyes is the usage unreasonable?

One other thing that kind of caught my eye, the Location Services is not passed through even though you are connected via 3G. That's too bad. Maybe a future Mifi will have that.

Yes, I've noticed it always thinks I'm in Philadelphia (where I never am), no matter whether I'm in FL or Washington state or anyplace in between.

As someone else pointed out, if you reset the iPad, the GPS works.

I find that sometimes location services are available and sometimes not, depending on the app I'm using. Square is roughly in the ballpark most of the time, and maps is usually pretty close, but the Speedtest app still insists that Philly is the closest server. < shrugs >

The solution is so easy...move to Philly...

Easier said than done. Money doesn't grown on trees.

For those of us that live in Maryland, aka almost heaven...abundant steamed crabs, etc...why would we want to move anywhere else?

Anyway, what is the story with the GPS chips...there have been several threads about location or mislocation...is there a problem with the chips, the algorithm, or the system that auctioneers between the possible locations? Don't have a 3G unit so the question is more curiosity.

In my case, it's not the ipad that's confused, it's the mifi. When I use a regular wifi connection I don't have this problem.

If you have a GPS problem you should start a new thread. This thread is about Virgin Mobile and unlimited access.

I started this thread, and will allow this threadjack, since it concerns the discoveries of the what limitations we might run into with Virgin Mobile. I might not have a chance to check till next week, but the iPad I have which is on Virgin Mobile is able to gather GPS correctly off my home Airport Extreme. We'll try off the MiFi when we get a chance and see if the reset helps there.

Now that that is cleared up...I am still curious as to the origin of the issue people are raising about GPS and location determination. It is not a problem with dedicated GPS units, so why the problem with the iPad? And this is NOT an iPad bash by any means. A technical question...is the problem coming about from the MiFi as Barbara suggests, or is the real culprit the auctioneering? I am not a fan of auctioneering systems at this level, that is for technical fail-safe reasons.

But maybe this is going outside of the realm of these discussions so may be I should stop now and say thanks for listening.
