How do I return lost iPhone 12 Pro Max back to its owner?

I am writing to inform you that I have found an iPhone 12 Pro Max in Pakistan. The IMEI number of the device is 3*************17.

Upon checking the phone, I noticed that it displays a partially visible email address on the lock screen: c......@yahoo.com, which I believe might belong to the rightful owner.

I would like to return the phone to its owner, but I do not have the means to contact them directly.

If you find an iPhone (or any other device) in the trash or elsewhere, it is advisable to hand it over to local law enforcement authorities as soon as possible. Here’s why and how you should proceed:

Why Hand It Over to Authorities?

  1. Possible Connection to Criminal Activity: The device may have been used in illegal activities. If found in your possession, it could raise suspicion.
  2. Owner's Right to Reclaim Property: The rightful owner may report the phone as lost or stolen. Law enforcement can help track the owner.
  3. Avoid Legal Complications: Keeping or tampering with the device could potentially lead to legal consequences.

Steps to Take:

  1. Document the Discovery: Note the location, date, and time where you found the device.
  2. Avoid Tampering: Do not turn on or attempt to unlock the phone. This preserves evidence if it is part of a criminal investigation.
  3. Contact Local Authorities: Report the discovery to your local police station.
  4. Obtain Written Proof: Request a receipt or written acknowledgment from the authorities that you handed over the device. This serves as evidence for your records.
  5. Follow Up if Necessary: If you're concerned about the outcome, you can check back with the police to ensure the device was processed appropriately.

By taking these steps, you protect yourself legally and help ensure the device is handled properly.
