The spotlight has stopped working — it doesn't open at all, either with a hotkey or by pressing the open button.

Folder search in the finder works.

What I've already tried:

rebooting multiple times did not help

• the spotlight does not work in safe mode either

• reinstalling the system did not help

• a hard reboot of spotlight from activity monitor did not help

• it didn't help to reindex the macintosh HD either
