You're lucky to have an iPad with a USBc port. Are you using a Flash Drive that is also USBc? So you have plugged it in to the iPad directly, is that right?

If you want pictures as you have edited, cropped, and captioned them, then in Photos, select the pictures you want to transfer, and choose Share>Save to Files, and you should see

your drive listed with "iCloud" and "On My iPad." You can choose your drive (mine is Seagate 10TB) and you can even add a new folder and save there.

You may prefer to transfer your original picture files as they come straight from the camera with no edits. For that you instead use Share>Export Unmodified Originals in the same way.

Does this work for you?

Well, you certainly don't have to select them one at a time. I select a bunch by sliding my finger over them. You can actually start at the bottom, slide your finger up toward the top, and the screen will start scrolling for you to select more. Sometimes is seems like I have to select one and then do the slide. It works, but I'm not sure what the exact rules are, or if there are any. As you've seen, though, there is no Select All.

But I'm not sure it's wise to try to select too many at a time. If there is a corrupted file in there someplace, you may have to start over, and you won't have any idea where that was. For many operations, more than 1000 at a time can lead to difficulties. I'd start with smaller batches and see how it goes.

It is possible to Select All by starting from the bottom, continue sliding to reach the top, and while still sliding with another finger tap near the top, then all items are selected. (I learned that tip from these forums).

...granted, that is clumsy and needs some practice. I can do that with 80% success rate. Sometimes it fails, or sometimes a few items at the top are not selected but I can then add them separately to Select All.
