Battery drains way to fast on New iPhone 16 pro Max

Hello. I just got my first IPhone (I decided to go with 16 pro max ) and I love it so far..

Im coming from an Android so i dont know much but my battery went from 80% to 55% battery and I only used it for 2h 22m with only 44m on YT... Is it normal?

Some Friends said that I should do a factory reset using iTunes since it could be a bug. Should I do that or send it to a service or smth? One of my Friends got 8h of SOT and still had 20%.

iPhone 16 Pro Max, iOS 18

The 2 main factors that affect Battery Health are 5G in fringe areas requiring more power to maintain that connection and the apps on your phone. Go to Settings > Battery, and post the screen shot of the green battery graph with the last 24 hours option selected and the top 5 apps that are consuming the battery. That will show you what percentage of the battery each app uses. If removing a problem app increases your battery performance, then you have identified the source. Some apps will be identified as using Background Processes and those continue to use the battery even when the app is not being used.

Doing the Factory Reset with a computer will restore iOS and resolve any problems related to the install. It has helped a small percentage of people, but if it is due to an app/5G, the battery draining will continue. You can turn off 5G as a test, but for most it will be an app related issue.

The other thing to remember is that after the setup of a new phone, and even iOS update, the phone will perform indexing and object identification in photos. This will take about 5 days depending on the size of your photo library. You will notice the phone being warm while this is being done and it will consume more of your battery until those processes are completed.

The measure of battery health deterioration/drainage is subjective and can vary depending on individual usage patterns. There is no universal standard to determine whether the battery health deterioration/drainage is normal or abnormal because it heavily relies on how the battery is used and maintained.

Protect & Prolong the Life of your iPhone's Battery:

  1. About the battery usage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch ...
  2. Batteries - Maximising Performance - Apple (IN)
  3. iPhone Battery and Performance

Try to monitor Battery usage by iPhone Activity as shown below

What is shown under battery usage? Checking that would give you an indication of the usage behavior.

  1. Background Activity
  2. Notifications
  3. Connected to Charger
  4. Or any Other

See the pic below (iPhone 12 Pro iOS 17.3.1)

"Show Activity" feature will show you more info see the pic below

Try some of these options too.

To prolong the life of your iPhone battery, you can follow these tips and best practices:

To prolong the life of your iPhone battery, you can follow these tips and best practices:

  1. Optimize Battery Charging: Enable the "Optimized Battery Charging" feature on your iPhone. It helps reduce the wear on the battery by slowing down the battery aging process. You can find this option in Settings > Battery > Battery Health. About Optimized Battery Charging on your iPhone - Apple Support (IN)
  2. Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, can negatively impact your battery life. Avoid exposing your iPhone to excessive heat or cold, such as leaving it in direct sunlight or in a freezing car.If your iPhone or iPad gets too hot or too cold – Apple Support (UK)
  3. Use Original Chargers and Cables: Always use Apple's original chargers and cables or certified third-party accessories. Low-quality chargers or cables can damage the battery and reduce its lifespan. Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector accessories - Apple Support (IN)
  4. Avoid Draining the Battery to Zero: Charge it whenever the charge becomes lower than 20%. The rest is up to you when to charge. how long to charge, how often to charge, which adapter to use starting from 5W to 140W USB-C Power Adapter etc.
  5. Optimize Display Settings: Adjust your display settings to optimize battery life. Lower the screen brightness, enable auto-brightness, and use shorter screen timeout durations. Adjust the display and text size on iPhone - Apple Support (IN)
  6. Minimize Background App Refresh: Limit the number of apps allowed to refresh in the background. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and disable it for apps that don't require real-time updates. Switch apps on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support (IN)
  7. Disable Push Email: Push email notifications can drain your battery quickly. Instead, set your email accounts to fetch data manually or at longer intervals. You can change this setting in Settings > Mail > Accounts > Fetch New Data.

Here’s my observation of your posted screenshot:

Chrome, YouTube, Reddit and Instagram are all owned by Google.

You can easily access YouTube, Reddit, etc. from Safari (which offers protection from Google harvesting your personal data and selling it for profit).

By using those apps, you are giving Google your blessing to your personal data. The safeguards do not exist outside of Safari.

All of the data harvesting takes its toll on your battery.

Many years ago, the battery draining problem was Adobe Flash Media. Hot laptops with noisy fans were the symptoms. HTML 5 was the answer back then.

History repeats itself.

What you do with this knowledge is ultimately up to you. 😁

The graph shows that your battery dropped 35% in the previous 8 hours. I would not be concerned about that. You should be getting all day battery life and just need to charge your phone all night, every night.

With the "Ongoing Update" message, it may be an indication that indexing is still occurring, but I would still do a Force Restart.

  • Press and quickly release Volume Up
  • Press and quickly release Volume Down
  • Press and HOLD the side button until the Apple logo appears. It could take up to 15 seconds to see the Apple logo and you will want to ignore anything else on the screen until the Apple logo pops up.

Now I,m using IOS 18.6. If i still have problems After a week or so should I try to downgrade it to 18.5 or do a full reset using iTunes?

You cannot go backwards to iOS 18.5, so no sense in thinking about that idea.

Some of my Friends said this could help sometimes as the phone is New

I'm sure that your friends mean well, but they are guessing, and they are wrong.

I uploaded 2 photos from the battery Page. From my perspective, it drains 10% per hour or smth. Also what I have to mention is that I used low power mode since I made this post because I'm away from Home for a few hours.

As for the update, it was made 2 days back and I only have 30 photos in the gallery but maybe it is still indexing? I thought that the update will finish After the "Ongoing Update " Message dissapears.
