I was having the same problem with my right AirPod Pro 2. Took it into the Genius Bar twice under warranty. The first time they replied both AirPods but not the case. The second time they replaced the right AirPod again and the case. That did it. It must have been the case so now when I put the AirPods in the case the orange light comes on immediately (had to "force" the right one down to get a good connection) and they both charge very, very fast and when the case is opened the iPhone shows them and case immediately.

If you're still under warranty take them into the nearest Genius Bar and have the check out the problem. If they're amenable to replacement push for the case and left AirPod.

Since getting the new case I haven't enjoyed my AirPods Pro 2 more. Absolutely a delight to use.

It sounds like the left AirPod isn’t making a solid connection in the case. I’d recommend gently cleaning the gold charging contacts on both the AirPod and inside the case with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Make sure the AirPod is seated properly in the case and try using a different Apple charging cable and power adapter. If the issue continues after resetting your AirPods, since they’re still under warranty from your December 2024 purchase, Apple can arrange a replacement for the pod or case.
