Restoring missing VPN settings on iPhone 15 after updating to iOS 18.6

I updated to 18.6 and the next time I was on my phone, my VPN setting had vanished. What happened. I had 1 with the phone and Bitdefender. Now the original is totally gone and Bitdefender is wonky. Does Apple security not have a VPN anymore?

iOS updates do not remove or change your VPN settings by themselves. However, there are a few possible reasons why the VPN option may no longer appear:

  1. VPN app compatibility: If your VPN provider has not updated their app or configuration to be compatible with the latest iOS version, the profile may be temporarily disabled or fail to load.
  2. Profile removal: If the VPN was installed through a configuration profile (for example, from work or school), it may need to be reinstalled if the profile was removed during the update.
  3. Corrupted configuration: Sometimes, existing VPN profiles can become corrupted after a major system update and need to be re-added.

What you can do:

  • Restart your iPhone to rule out a temporary glitch.
  • Check Settings > General > VPN & Device Management to see if your VPN profile still exists.
  • If you use a VPN app, make sure it’s updated to the latest version from the App Store.
  • If the VPN option is still missing, contact your VPN service provider for an updated configuration or reinstall their app/profile.

Apple has never had a VPN that users can simply "turn on".

Fact is that you don't need VPN on the iPhone unless your company or school requires it.

The next fact is that a VPN provides less security.....not more......despite all the fancy advertising.

If you have already signed up with the VPN company.....it may be too late though in one respect. They have likely already sold your personal information to other companies.

In other words, with almost all VPN companies, the VPN is not the product.......you are the product.
