After upgrading to MacOS 15.6 (24G84) I have numerous residual files sitting in a drive called "Update"

After upgrading to MacOS 15.6 (24G84) I have numerous residual files sitting in a volume called "Update" which occupy approximately 35 GB on my Mac mini M1. I cannot eject the volume or delete the files on it (there are hundreds of them). My guess is the update went wrong, but how do I clean up the computer? Simple techniques like restarting or shutting down do not work. I tried WhatSize, to no avail.
