When you go to a location that has no cellular signal your device tries to find one every few seconds, then it extends the intervals between tries for a couple of minutes, then extends the intervals between tries to 5 minutes to avoid running down the battery (cellular network access uses huge amounts of energy, especially when there is a weak signal or no signal). Switching on Airplane mode for a few seconds, then turning it off will start the network search over. Also, waiting 5 minutes will also work, but who wants to wait 5 minutes in these busy times? 😏

if it was me then I would try to put it in airplane mode and then back again to normal cellular functionality
