For a 10 year old, you might be best advised to choose the entry-level iPad (A16) - also known as the iPad11 - this being the most robust of the available iPad models, typically used in Educational settings.
Adding a suitable fitted case is highly advisable to protect the iPad from inevitable drops and potential mishandling.
