My iOS devices (iPhone 13 + and iPad 11th Gen) and OS device (MacBook Apple M2 Pro) have displayed a red "alert" for over a week but I can't figure out what it is alerting me to. I just updated software on each of these devices yesterday but the alerts are still there. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, how do I find out what I am being alerted about?

Presumably you refer to a red numeral that appears below your name at top-left of the Settings sidebar. Tap the number to expose/view the notification; nothing else will happen unless you progress beyond the following page.

You mean a red notification badge? This is most of the times things like "finish set up your iPad. Apple Pay can be added in settings" or something like that, most of the times it is an in-important message
