  • Apple Store / Retailer: If you bought your iPhone 16 in a sales-tax–free state (in the USA), then Apple won’t charge sales tax, whether you pay in full or via Apple’s monthly installment plan.
  • Credit Card Bank / EMI Plan:
    • Your bank does not charge sales tax—they’re just financing your purchase.
    • What they can charge are interest fees, processing fees, or GST (in India) on those fees, depending on the bank’s installment plan.
    • Example: If you choose a 0% EMI plan, the phone price is just split into monthly payments, no tax added. If it’s a regular EMI, they may add interest + GST on the interest.
