I have somehow managed to get infected with a phony popup window saying I need MacAfee antivirus software, I'm infected, yada yada yada. I know it's a scam, how do I get rid of it?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 15.6
Safari->Settings->Advanced->scroll to the very bottom and check Show features for web developers. A ‘Develop’ menu will appear on the top menu bar of Safari. In that dropdown menu select ‘Empty Caches’.
Safari->Settings->Privacy->Manage Website Data->remove all (cookies are deleted).
Restart Safari and see if it helps.

I've managed to shut it down, in notifications on Safari, [Settings:Websites:Notifications:macos-updates.com]. But curious how I totally eliminate this garbage.
Try and see if there are any mcafee remnants installed, delete them to see if the issues persist
