iPhone 16 Pro draining battery fast

Hi all,

My battery is draining really fast. While i am asleep my phone loses 10-12% battery percentage.

With light use I usually get 2-3 of SOT before I have to charge again.

ive set up my device using my IPhone 12 over 2 weeks ago.

Ive even done diagnostics with the apple support. They stated that everything is fine according to my iPhone. I have 13 charge cycles.

Can somebody help me resolve my issue?

I never had that issue with Meta apps before. My IPhone 12 never drained this fast with these apps working in the background

Meta apps are updated all the time with most being as much as 10 times each month where there will be significant differences in battery performance. It is not just noted on Apple devices, as Google recently called out Meta for their battery usage when the app is not running, and Meta claimed they would make changes, but that has yet to be seen. With some of the Meta updates, the battery usage has improved, but for others not so much.

Their business model is to let you use the apps for free in exchange for the information that they can collect on your activities to sell to advertisers. That is how they post billions of dollars without selling any products and why they use your battery to collect that information. You are the product being sold.

Those are System Processes that normally do not show up in Screen Time. Those specific ones started showing up in iOS 18, and others as well such as GameOverlay UI that was fixed in an update and that one no longer appears. You can send Feedback to Apple and one of the options to use is a Bug Report. Are you using iOS 18.6.2?

Specifically for those 2 processes, they are used for Face ID/Touch ID or Passcode entry. Since your previous screenshot showed considerable use of the Home - Lock Screen, that is the time waiting for authentication. The Home & Lock Screen in Screen Time has also been seen while the file indexing is going on after an update. It usually only takes less then a week for those indexing processes to finish in the background so an update from 2 weeks ago should have completed by now, but since then iOS 18.6.2 was released where the indexing would be done again for that update, so it is not clear if/when that was done. If you are already updated fully, you may need to wait for the next release, or even if there is going to be a point update to iOS 18.

The one thing I always do after a Software Update is a Force Restart, as it does perform some basic housecleaning with cache cleaning. If there are any stuck processes, those will also be stopped.

  • Press and quickly release Volume Up
  • Press and quickly release Volume Down
  • Press and HOLD side button until Apple Logo appears. This could take up to 15 seconds before you see the Apple Logo and you must ignore anything else you see on the screen during that time. If you do not see the Apple Logo, try again as it may take a couple of attempts to get the speed and sequence of the key presses correct.

And again, your battery graph is showing a drop of 50% over 12 hours, and that should not be concerning. Nothing in the graph shows that it needs charging in 2-3 hours. You should expect some apps to use more battery than others, such as WhatsApp using the battery even when you are not using it, listening to music in the background, and Google Maps using Location Services, but that is all expected and appears to be normal from what was posted. Charge your phone all night, every night with Optimized Charging and you should be good. Don't use a Charge Limit unless you want to limit the daily use time of your battery.

Your battery is dropping about 50% over 12 hours. That is not something to be concerned about. Your battery is dropping when it is not being used due to the Background Activity noted by WhatsApp and that is expected and why Apple is telling you that the app is using Background Activity.

Use Optimized Charging and charge your phone all night, every night. If you are using a Charge Limit, that is just decreasing the amount of use that you can expect to get on a charge. It is your choice on whether you want to remove WhatsApp so your battery does not drain so much when not using the iPhone. I believe the Saturn app also uses Background Activity, but cannot confirm in the screenshot you provided.

Ive reviewed the battery information with the apple support. They said that the battery is draining due to the social media apps, although I don’t use them that often

You can see in your Screenshot that WhatsApp is using your battery even when you do not use it. That is why it is noted as using Background Activity. The Background Activity means it is using your battery when not using the app.

i tried to test how much the battery drains while the phone is idle

Why?

This is nothing to be concerned about. It's normal. How much it might decline will depend on activity that is going on in the background on the iPhone.

Keep the charger connected if you don't want the battery to decline while the phone is idle otherwise.

You are worrying needlessly about the battery.
