account recovery: password forgotten, device unreachable

Hi!

in 2023 I had no personal apple device. So I created Apple account and used it to access the device of my classmate to take online training course. since then I had no contact with him.

This year I've got new iPad, tried to login with my apple account and found that completely forgot the password. Attempts to reset the password failed, system requested to input old apple device password. After looking into my email history I found that the original account password had been reset by someone, possibly the device owner.

As a temporary solution I've created new email and apple account just to be able to access the device but it is very unconvenient (

I didn't find the password reset or account recovery procedure for my specific scenario. May be someone could share what should I do to get my account back?

Thanks in advance.

If you find you can’t sign in, reset your password, or receive verification codes, you can request account recovery (get Apple’s own instructions in this article: How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple Account password - Apple Support ) to regain access to your account. Account recovery might take a few days or longer, depending on the specific account information you can provide to verify your identity. One tip to using account recovery it to look for options in small blue letters beneath the normal log-in items if you cannot complete the requested information.
