Incompatible Thunderbolt cable for 13-inch MacBook Air and old 27-inch Thunderbolt display

The Thunderbolt port on the 13 inch MacBook Air does not fit the Thunderbolt cable on my old external 27 inch Thunderbolt display.

If this is a Thunderbolt Display whose hydra cable has two heads, you must use the Apple Thunderbolt 3-to-2 adapter, or a similar third-party adapter (of which there aren't many).


You cannot use a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter. The plugs and sockets may physically connect, but you'll present the monitor with the wrong kind of signal.
