I am trying to stop this from happening. When control is being held, and left click is used, it is a right click. I would no longer like this to happen, and would simply like the clicks to act as they would whether the control button was not held. Thanks.

I don’t think this applies to what the OP is asking for.
Control-left click has always been the equivalent of right-click. It goes back to when Apple mice had just one button and no little ball nor a way to distinguish clicking on either side.
If there is a way to achieve what the OP wants it must be a hidden preference.
I suppose that you still want to be able to otherwise use the Control key; if not then you could disable the Control key altogether, in System Settings->Keyboard->Keyboard Shortcuts->Modifier Keys.
Other than that, I don’t think there is a setting in the GUI to do what you want. If there is a Terminal command for it, I have not yet found it.

Maybe this depends on the mouse -- what kind of mouse do you have? Below are the Magic Mouse options.
