AVCHD Log & Transfer shut out in 27" iMac ?

Hi guys,

Is the following problem common ?

1) When I did a log & transfer in 27" iMac importing direct from a SDHC card, it takes about 2 mins to detect the card but if I put the same SDHC card into my macbook pro sdhc slot, it only takes about 15 seconds to detect. Why is the 27" iMac slower than the macbook pro ?

2) Another problem with the AVCHD Log & Transfer in the 27" iMac is that very often when I try to drag the playhead forward (ie to the right) to review the clip (i wanted to forward to find the correct out point), the beach ball came out & it rotates indefinately & I have to force quit. Sometimes, in the process, FCE4 closes itself ....

Any ideas ?

Thanks

No, I did not connect the camera to iMac. I put the SDHC card directly into the sdhc slot of iMac.

When L&T in macbook pro, I also did the same, which is to put the sdhc card directly into the sdhc slot of the macbook pro.

2) Same problem. Most people backup the card to a hard drive or some other archive media and ingest from there.

U mean copy the whole 16GB from the sdhc card into the iMac internal HDD ?

Thanks

That shouldn't be so slow, unless there is a problem with the slot or the card.

I copied to my internal HDD & do a L&T vial the SDHC slot, it also took the same time. I tried on my old 24" iMac, it is also that slow. It is only on my macbook pro that it is fast ...

Is there a problem with my new 27" iMac ?

No, usually a secondary drive. You should have some backup or archive of your media.

Ok, I am copying to my FW800 ext HDD now ....

As far as I understand by trial and error: On a iMac Icore7 (8 GB RAM) it takes 2 minutes before AVCHD media on a SDHC card shows up in the L&T. The same happens when using a MacPro (2x 2.66Ghz dual core) both running OS 10.6.4 and FCP 6.0.6
The strangest thing is: when using OS 10.5.8 with the same FCP on the MacPro it only takes about 5 seconds to show the same media, same SDHC card...... beats me but I got a strange feeling about this.
And no way I put my money in a couple of Imac iCore7's to install an older OS.

Apple, any comment ???

I am having the same issue with my iMac. By accident i figured out that this is happening when I have my ethernet or wifi turned on. If i unplug the ethernet cord and disable the wifi on the iMac, then the log and transfer will detect instantly. I tried this several times to insure it wasn't just a coincidence. Don't know if anyone is aware of this issue? I don't want to continue this workaround.
