How to change the icon for a folder alias in macOS Sequoia?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to change the icon of an alias for a folder on my desktop, but I can’t get it to work. Normally, I can open the Get Info window and copy/paste a custom icon, but this method doesn’t seem to work for folder aliases.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Created a custom icon and applied it to the folder before making the alias — no luck, the alias icon stays default.
  • Tried the usual copy/paste method in the alias’ Info window — no change.

I’m running macOS Sequoia. The goal is to make the alias more visually distinct to help someone with dyslexia easily identify it.

Has anyone found a way to reliably change the icon for a folder alias in Sequoia?

Thanks in advance!
