Have your friend (or you) type in www.icloud.com into an Internet browser
Enter your friends Apple ID and Password
If Find My was enabled on their phone....and the battery has not run down, and the phone has a good Internet connection where it is located, the location of the phone will appear.

Caution......if the iPhone was stolen, and the location of the iPhone is displayed, you would never want to try to retrieve the phone personally.
