Thank you for sharing the issue you are facing. We have nothing much in the way of info. to go on in order to help..
Wondering what happens when you try to send an imessage and whether an explanation would be enough to help solve the problem. If you are getting an error message that would point to the cause of the situation.
If Messages has been working ok, and has stopped working:
Updating to the newest compatible OS version for your device or Mac may help
(NB: It is wise to back up data first)
Else: If OS is already up-to-date: Try restarting your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, as that often restores order.
If you haven't used Messages before:
You would need an Apple ID Account, and to be signed in to your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or device, with your Account details in order to sign in and use Messages.
Then you would need wi-fi, or cellular data turned on to send and receive messages.

What to do: If you can’t turn on or sign in to iMessage or FaceTime on your iPhone - Apple Support
or
If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
