iPhone 16 Pro Max Photos app showing insufficient storage despite available space

why is my photos app saying i’m running out of storage and that i won’t be able to take more soon? i recent got the an iphone 16 pro max and have 177.21 GB of storage left out of 256 GB in settings…is this a glitch?

What is the exact wording of the message? Could it be talking about iCloud storage?

Are you using iCloud Photos? How much iCloud storage do you have, and how much is used? You only get 5GB for free, and some will be used for syncing contacts, calendars, settings, and such.
