iPhone 14 had to be Retired due to use of Lightening Charger?

Was reading an article on cybernews.com and it said "Cybernews has previously reported that the iPhone SE and iPhone 14 had to retire because, at the time, they were the last ones to still be using a Lightning charger." I have a 14 Pro which I purchased March 2023. Any truth to this and if so, how will it impact my phone, if any?

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 18

You can also read on the internet that the earth is flat. Phones are retired annually as new phones are introduced. It didn't have anything to do with the Lightning charging port. The EU mandated that all devices sold in the EU had to adopt USB C. Apple simply changed from Lightning to USB C to comply. But that is not why any of the phone models were retired.

Not sure what they mean by "retired". I guess they mean "discontinued", i.e stopped manufacturing them.

Apple discontinued the iPhone 14 Pros when they released the iPhone 15 lineup, but still left the regular and plus models available for sale, they discontinued the iPhone 14 entirely when they released the iPhone 16 lineup last year and discontinued the SE just this past March when they released the iPhone 16e.

And, no, it should not impact your device at all. That's just the process by which Apple stops making one type of phone in favor of making a newer model.

It has no effect on existing models in any way shape or form.

Your iPhone will continue to work as it has and will continue to charge over a Lightning cable and will continue to get software updates for a few more years.
