iPhone 12 camera identifies as non-Apple after update to iOS 18.6.2
Purchased new from Apple directly, an iPhone 12 which formerly worked fine, was updated to iOS 18.6.2 and when restarted, the front camera is not working. Occasionally, the back (selfie) camera will turn on and function normally. Most times, neither is available.
In settings, I am told that the camera now identifies as a non-Apple part: “Unknown Part. Unable to determine if your iPhone camera is a genuine Apple part. This could be because the part is non-genuine or not functioning as expected.”
I have gone through the steps suggested If the camera or flash on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working - Apple Support and still not working. After performing a hard restart and a reset of all settings, when opening camera receive this message “Camera Not Recognised This can happen if the camera is not a genuine Apple part or was installed incorrectly. View more details in Parts & Service History in Settings.” Note - original new Apple iPhone purchased straight from Apple. Thus again, this is not the answer. It’s an issue with the recent iOS update which unintentionally changed something about how it recognises the camera.
It’s not a problem with the camera, it’s an iOS update problem. Camera works fine prior to update. Update applied. Camera not recognized as an Apple device - says it’s not an Apple part. Original phone bought new. Nothing modified aside from the iOS. Problem not camera, problem iOS update issue. Please advise another more appropriate fix for the iOS update to solve the problem with the misrecognition of the camera. Thank you in advance for the patch to the iOS update to fix this issue. Thanks in advance.
