Search for exact terms in message bodies in mail

Search for exact terms in message bodies in mail

I want to search for a message that mentions a brand name, Everlane. Mail is showing me 500+ messages with 'everyone' somewhere in the subject or message.

I cannot see a way to limit my search to the message body (limit to subject and to sender and to attachment, but not to message body), and no way to limit the search to the exact term EVERLANE and not EVERYONE. This is not a typo to be corrected.

How can I force mail to show only items with my exact term?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.6

To limit the search to the message body, click "Subject contains":

then click "Message":

The "everybody" you get seems to be a bug. (I get it too.) But by restricting the search to "Message", I don't get any "everybody" results.

Thank you, this works.

Your message slipped in just before my last posting, so previous was not written in reply to your very clear and correct answer.

Once I search for only message subject, a dropdown appears that allows for message BODY to be selected.

This should NOT be so opaque--very poor design decisions on Apple's part, as though there is an assumption that no one knows how to spell anymore.....and then *hiding* the message body option instead of foregrounding it?

Just...disdain for the user. Feedback will be sent.

No. It's not a bug. It's Apple assuming I don't know how to spell. And not clarifying, like every search engine does these days, 'only x results for yourExactSearchTerm--do you want to search for slightVariantOfYourSearchTerm that has xxxx results instead?' At the same time, I think we're supposed to know that it only gives us 'slightVariantOfYourSearchTerm' results because there are none for 'slightVariantOfYourSearchTerm'.

Poor human engineering, not what I used to expect from Apple, but unfortunately now part of the routine.

I would not mind if it told me there were no messages with 'Everlane' in the message body, subject, or address, and would you like to search for 'everyone' instead?

But I really want to see that statement of zero results for Everlane and not offering 500+ results for something else....that may or may not contain one with the actual search term.
