Difference in additional software between iPhone 15 and iPhone 17

All 17-series phones support Apple Intelligence. Among 15-series phones, only the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max have, or will get Apple Intelligence features. (The 15 and 15 Plus don't have enough RAM to support those features.)

Currently, the latest iOS version, iOS 18.6.2, is available for all devices.

Starting from September 15th, iPhone 15 and iPhone 17 will receive an update to iOS 26.

As of now, there are no further updates scheduled.
